Learning music at LMS

LMS offers an exciting variety of musical activities to complement and enrich the instrumental learning of our Lochaber youngsters. Our weekly centre is staffed by highly qualified and experienced tutors and activities run from early afternoon until 6.45pm every Tuesday during term at the hostel building by the High School. We offer individual instrumental tuition, Senior and Junior Orchestra groups, Choir, musicianship and music theory classes as well as a series of Music Makers classes designed for children from age 3 and upwards.

LMS is mainly geared towards learning classical techniques and music, but we also provide opportunities for learning the clarsach and we have a thriving traditional music group.

Our students prepare a public concert in the summer and at Christmas each year, as well as performing at the annual Lochaber Festival. As students develop their playing, they work towards ABRSM exams.

LMS is a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), generously supported by grants from Highland Council and others. We also carry out fund-raising activities but to help balance our books, we do need to make a modest charge for the services we offer.

LMS always welcomes new faces so please inform your string teacher if you would like to come along to try out any of our group activities, such as orchestra. Parents may like to contact our Music Director who will be only too pleased to offer further information and help.
